High Summer

Even in a universe gone green…

hidden gems abound.

Especially evident out on the prairie,

where beneath resolute sun abundance positively shines.

Sometimes in all but blinding bursts.

Across wide open space, everyone sees you coming and your presence might be loudly announced.

Nearer the forest canopy, things change.

Life lived at the edge is subject to every day shade that after solstice only grows longer by the day.

At that boundary line, the path to cool relief is often obscure.

The deeper one travels beneath the trees, what’s not predominately green becomes a tougher find.

Which is just the flavor of any high summer day in the woods.

Cloaked, shadowy life mixes with soft light,

while death perennially comingles.

There, luminosity is relative.
