I'd no idea about the schoolhouse, how cool is that? I was remarkably lucky to do so much good work in and around the barn, but am even more pleased by the widespread and proud Annala clan's most generous response to it. This turned out to be a conversation that keeps on giving. Thank-you for sharing your memories.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4453302926934823123.post-45487953080021711262023-05-15T12:43:38.756-05:002023-05-15T12:43:38.756-05:00I'm Rae Ann Annala (named for my father Reino,...I'm Rae Ann Annala (named for my father Reino, son of Matt Annala) and I stumbled across this post. This is a comprehensive review of the barn, the only thing I feel I can add to the info is that the barn was built around a central silo with the stantions circled around it so it was easy to feed the cows during the winter, every animal was within a few steps of the silage.

The barn has been a lovely landmark for many years & often during family visits we would have artists sitting in the driveway sketching the barn & milkhouse. (Note the milk house chimney was built in the shape of a milk bottle.)

Grandpa also designed the original 2 room Oma schoolhouse, which is now the Oma Township offices & museum. The family has donated Grandpa's original blueprints for the building to the township. He also designed a small church in Ironwood. I don't know if it is still standing, but I recall it being just a few blocks from the High School.

I remember as a youngster tripping through the cow patties in a pasture & through a wooded area to swim in the Montreal River that abuts the farm. I am very proud that there is officially Annala Falls listed on the Plat maps.

I want to thank all the people who have over the years helped to preserve this charming building that is a large part of my childhood.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4453302926934823123.post-84774534812675175012023-03-28T06:33:07.160-05:002023-03-28T06:33:07.160-05:00The bird tells me it was our 1st trip. I was a child when this happened, but I remember the reverence we all paid to the lost sailors in school when the news was announced over the intercom. Like the Titanic disaster, the Edmund Fitzgerald reminds us of human frailty and nature’s immense power.
